Project Report

For my project I made an abstract model out of triangles and refined them so the could be inhabited in game mode on the Cry Engine, not only just inhabit but move through the model in an interesting way. I was inspired to do this from playing the game Mirrors Edge where the play has to navigate the space by doing parkour in first person. To do this I made challenging jumps and ways of navigating it from all different directions in a abstract triangular style. To make this feel more consistent I duplicated the model a lot into a grid formation.

For animation I originally wanted each model to move back and forth, but this would not work smoothly from going past the limitations of the program. So instead I decided I wanted to create a music visualiser type of experience through animating a lot of bright multi coloured lights passing through the entire model on each axis to create shadow and light dynamics over the detailed model.

These two ideas I showed off in my final movie, by having upbeat but atmospheric middle-eastern/psychedelic music playing while viewing the lights going back and forth through the model. Showing each shot transitioning to the beat of the music, I progressed at showing model further away  then got closer, which lead to the first person view navigating the model and ending with the outside of the model. I called the movie Palace of Light because the model seems like kind of like a foreign/alien palace with an intense amount of colorful light going through, this why I chose the psychedelic/middle-eastern music. I chose the font Trojan Pro for the tittle and credits because the sharp edges of the font were similar to the model.
